Reggio Emilia Inspired Collage:
The Environment As An Essential Device

The way I envision the Reggio Emilia classroom.

This collage represents the Reggio Emilia’s approach toward the classroom environment. I designed this collage in hopes of creating an appealing piece that resembles the calm of the Reggio Emilia school. I was able to create this collage due to my acquired understanding of the Reggio Emilia principles associated with the environment. 

 I made this collage while remembering the qualities that Reggio Emilia relates the classroom environment with. Due to my newly acquired knowledge surrounding the Reggio Emilia principles, I was able to make this collage in celebration of what makes a Reggio Emilia environment so wonderful. The aesthetics is this collage represents the coming together of many different aspects that make this world beautiful. The black and white colour mixed with the beautiful oranges and blues represents the awakening of the senses and the beginning of knowledge. Through the appropriate environment students are given the chance to challenge themselves in ways of learning that will facilitate them throughout life.   The frames embody the beauty that lies in the truth. By allowing students to understand themselves and the world around through multiple perspectives, the recognition of how others view things becomes apparent. The winter tree, not only represents nature but the coming of spring that always promises new happenings as well as new beginnings. The mound of books symbolizes the buried treasures that can be discovered through active learning. Flexibility and reciprocity is demonstrated through the pure glass of water that represents a never-ending cycle that continually provides an infinite amount for us.

 In all, this collage was created with inspiration from the Reggio Emilia principles based on the classroom environment. A beautiful classroom that contains all the right things can help fashion minds that will always flourish.
